Why you should watch The Get Down

lokidarklordofall:

1. Representation

  • Most of the cast is POC. There are a couple white dudes, yeah, but, they’re there to represent #the man
  • Not everyone is straight™, and you actually get to watch this one queer kid find out about his queerness and you’ll get to enjoy his journey through himself.
  • One of the main characters is actually a victim of abuse and they don’t hide it, at all. the dude is pretty much raped and forced to harm people, and you never, ever, EVER blame him for it.

2. THE SONGS!!!!!!

  • It’s literally about a bunch of kids doing anything in their power to fulfill their dreams. when the girl tells the boy “i have a plan and you’re not going to derail me from it” there’s only one (1) character who calls her a bitch for it and he’s an asshole (you’ll like him because you’re meant to, but he’s an asshole). and since all these kids are about music and street art and such, there is a LOT of that. You get Disco and you get Hip Hop (or Rap, idk i suck at that i literally didn’t like any of those genres until this show hit me in the face) and you get street art masterpieces, and on top of that you get the man being all confused because they don’t understand it.

3. etc…

  • It’s violent and raw and colorful and its coordination of emotions is from some other world.
  • Every word that comes out of Dizzee’s mouth is priceless.
  • These talented kids are amazing and they’ll stop at nothing to make their ambitions come true, which will inspire you to do the same for yourself.
  • THIS SHOW IS POETRY PUT INTO A SCREEN.

Feel free to add your own reasons, my brain is too fuzzy to think of all the other reasons to watch this amazing show right now, so I’m just go and watch it for the third time.
