i’m with the whole “dont force ur children to adhere to gender rules” but please …. let them if they want to …. my whole perception of femininity was warped because my parents pushed me to literally be “not like other girls” & “alternative” but as soon as i embraced pink things and dresses & stuff i felt really good about myself
i cant tell u how upset i was when we had a medieval day at school & i wanted to be a princess but my parents were like “nah all the other girls would do that u should be a knight” & i felt super bad compared to the others ugh
also like ?? as soon as i started liking “girly” things i discovered i was non-binary & stuff, so for me it’s not so much of a “kids should like things of the stereotypically opposite gender” as it is “let kids like what they like regardless of their gender but dont force them to like things of the stereotypically opposite gender”
Not to be #thatperson but I feel like national news isn’t fully realizing how bad this is. Not to detract from the horror of Paradise and surrounding towns but this is really bad. And Sacramento is worse.
It is that bad, and you are not supposed to mind. You are supposed to accept the new normal. Sometimes American cities will be uninhabitable. Sometimes America will just burn. You will be encouraged to identify with this. It’ll probably be a whole thing, like how New Englanders take pride in driving in snowstorms.
The city of San Francisco currently has the worst air quality of anywhere in the world because of the wildfires. (This level of air quality, incidentally, is bad for people and kills them.) These once-in-a-lifetime wildfires will become more common in our lifetimes.
I think ! it’s okay! to say this isn’t fine!!
I am in downtown Oakland (right across the Bay from San Francisco) and I live in Alameda. The office I work in is one of the tallest buildings in Oakland and we are on the top floor. Current visibility is under six city blocks. I live in Alameda, which is less than four miles from here. It is not currently visible. It is scary and awful – and much worse so for the communities in Butte County.
It’s fucking horrible. It’s a days/weeks long brutal endurance through the smoke even for the healthiest who live and work indoors. The old, sick, infirm, homeless, and those that are cruelly forced to be out and work in this have it perilously worse.
And that’s not even touching on the actual immediate devastation to the lives in the path of these wildfires.
every word out of guillermo del toro’s mouth is the most hardcore thing i’ve ever heard and he says it all so casually like he doesn’t even realize how much of a gothic visionary he is
“Since childhood, I’ve been faithful to monsters. I have been saved and absolved by them, because monsters, I believe, are patron saints of our blissful imperfection, and they allow and embody the possibility of failing”
